The problem with working in groups is that it is easy to get lost in translation especially if the team lacks motivation and its team leader doesn’t care about his or her team mates. This situation will most definitely lead to less productive ideas and slower, half-baked end results. This problem is recognized and acknowledged by most companies in the latter part of the 20th century hence the birth of team building activities.
Studies showed that when working in teams, everyone should be informed and inspired in moving towards one goal alone. Although a team is often considered as one whole body working towards one goal, we should also consider that the team is composed of people with different values and way of thinking. As conflicting as it may seem, the sooner you accept this fact, the better your chance of achieving desired results or even more than that. To create a fully functional team, you’ll need to employ team building activities.
Team building is different from trainings wherein interactivity is kept at minimum. With team building, sharing of thoughts and concerns are highly encouraged. Within these activities, problems are addressed at once and goals are clarified. All progress and status of current projects are extensively discussed as well.
Team building boosts up the teams’ enthusiasm over projects. In a way, it assures everybody that they are doing great and their work is duly recognized. It also helps team members knowing that they are well covered and assisted by their leaders and not left to their own devices.
